Looking to 2028
In 2023, our top bargaining team was able to secure great gains toward closing the wage gap of our members. Bargaining is a continuing process, so looking toward 2028, one of our top priorities has to be retirement security for our members.
After a lifetime of service, our members deserve a retirement that includes financial security and access to affordable health care. In 2028, we need to take steps to negotiate a plan that enhances the current retirement plans and to develop a new VEBA to cover those hired after 2007.
While our current active members have excellent health care, we need a system that bridges the gap between employment and Medicare. Once they reach Medicare age, a plan that supplements Medicare is also essential. Our members deserve to enjoy their golden years without the burden of medical bills weighing them down.
I pledge to you to take all of our UAW Membership’s opinion into consideration and develop a plan that satisfies the needs of all involved.
